Meet the Owners of Tapville Social - Naperville

A Locally Owned, Locally Operated Social House in the Heart of Downtown

When you walk into Tapville Social - Naperville, you’re not just visiting a restaurant — you’re stepping into a locally owned social house built by a Naperville couple who believed downtown needed something different.

Joseph and Rachael Tota opened Tapville Social in 2018 with a simple goal: create a beverage-forward experience where people could gather, connect, and enjoy great food and drinks in a relaxed, welcoming space.

We sat down with the owners for a fun Q&A so you can get to know the people behind the pours.

Q: How did you two meet?

Joe: Believe it or not, we met on a Southwest Airlines flight. We were both traveling for business, and Rachael happened to sit down next to me.

Rachael: Joe mentioned he needed help with accounting services. We started talking, exchanged information, and the rest is history.

Sometimes the best partnerships start at 30,000 feet.

Q: How did you come up with the idea for Tapville Social?

About 10 years ago, we started talking about creating a place that felt like a true social house — somewhere beverage-forward, experiential, and interactive.

We live in the Naperville area and felt downtown Naperville was the perfect location for something unique. In 2018, we opened our doors and began building what has now become a staple in the community.

It’s been an incredible journey.

Q: What’s your favorite item on the menu?

Joseph & Rachael Tota

Tortellini Primavera

Rachael: The new Tortellini Primavera Pasta — it’s fresh, colorful, and perfect for a night out.

Joe: The Fajita Bowl. It’s hearty, flavorful, and hits every time.

Q: What’s your favorite drink?

Rachael: The Margarita Flight. It’s fun, social, and you get to try different flavor profiles all in one experience.

Joe: I’m an IPA guy. I love grabbing a fresh IPA right off the tap wall.

Q: What do you both do outside of the restaurant?

Joe: I operate Tapville Social full-time and stay heavily involved in the local business community. I also volunteer with the Downtown Naperville Association as Chairman.

Rachael: I’m a CPA and work with businesses on their accounting and financial needs. When I’m not working, I love yoga, baking and spending time with family.

And yes — we also have a little Yorkie, Juno, who keeps us busy (and entertained).

View of Historic Ceiling

Q: What’s something about Tapville that most people don’t know?

The building itself is over 120 years old. The ceiling you see inside is nearly original — a historic architectural detail that adds character and charm to the space.

We love blending history with innovation.

Q: Tell us about the wine machines — how did that happen?

We offer 20 bottles of wine available through our self-pour wine system. Those machines are imported from Tuscany, Italy.

We’ve traveled there for training to learn how to use and operate them properly. It was important to us that we brought authentic, high-quality wine technology to Naperville — and we’re proud to offer that experience here locally.

Q: What makes Tapville Social unique?

Tapville Social - Patio

We focus on being a beverage-forward social house with reasonable prices in the heart of downtown Naperville. Guests can pour their own beer and wine, try flights, explore new flavors, and truly make the experience their own.

It’s interactive.
It’s social.
It’s different.

The location has one of the most amazing patios in Downtown Naperville behind the restaurant.

Q: What excites you most about the future?

The past few years haven’t been easy — from COVID to the ongoing construction in downtown Naperville, it’s been a challenging road.

But we’re optimistic.

We’re planning a full remodel next year as we celebrate our ninth year in business. We’re excited to continue improving the space, enhancing the experience, and serving this incredible community for years to come.

Thank You, Naperville ❤️
